 Fixed Term Part Time Role. 


We are seeking a highly motivated nurse to join the NET service as a clinical nurse consultant / research assistant

  • The nurse will be an experienced practitioner who uses and facilitates evidence- based practice which is visionary, creative and appropriate to the tumour stream/service.
  • The successful applicant will predominantly be responsible for supporting patients and their family members through all aspects of their cancer experience. This will include making phone calls to and taking phone calls from patients from all treatment modalities and managing new referrals to the service. The ability to work with all members of the team as well as allied health and community services is essential.
  • The nurse will work as a valued member of the AUS-NET research team within Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre

Essential requirements
  • Hold a registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a registered nurse with relevant experience in cancer nursing/coordination of care.
  • Completion the Neuroendocrine Cancer Australia – Neuroendocrine Cancer Education Modules.
  • Completion of an accredited Good Clinical Practice training prior to commencement of the trial.
Desirable requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in the conduct of research projects/data management concerning data of patients receiving acute cancer care, including but not limited to recruitment of patients, attaining informed consent, data collection, and ensuring data integrity.
  • Proven high level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to connect and collaborate with colleagues in a team environment, internal and external stakeholders, and the wider research community.
  • Demonstrated digital literacy including the ability to proficiently use computer software packages, local telehealth services, electronic Medical Records i.e., EPIC, Database packages (e.g., REDCap), Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Key Accountabilities

1.Provides support to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre’s Neuroendocrine Cancer unit to deliver research-related activities and communications.
  • Assists unit staff with the day to day running of the AUS-NET trial, specifically focus on intervention delivery and fidelity). Ability to interpret the needs and priorities within the team to provide effective research support.
  • Maintenance of regulatory files in accordance with ICH GCP and Unit standard operating procedures.
  • Electronic and hard copy filing is conducted in a timely manner and in accordance with regulatory requirements.
2.Leading the intervention component for the AUS-NET trial as a Specialist Neuroendocrine Nurse
  • Leads the study intervention according to the AUS-NET trial protocol requirements and maintain accurate and complete records. This includes (but not limited to) negotiating participant appointment schedules, completing treatment summaries, conducting nurse-led clinics, and conducting case conferencing.
  • Assists the AUS-NET central team in aspects of the research data management (e.g., recordings from the Survivorship Consult Clinics, where available)
3.Managing efficient clinical trial operations for the AUS-NET trial in an effective and efficient manner
  • Provide ongoing support and information to participants, seeking participant consent for research and be actively involved in the ongoing informed consent process.
  • Adheres to AUS-NET trial protocol requirements and maintain accurate and complete records. This includes a wide range of administrative support, including drafting correspondence, email, and calendar management/coordination.
  • Assists the AUS-NET central team in aspects of the research data management, including the entry of data into relevant AUS-NET database/s.
  • Provides support for research-related events and training, such as minuting and actioning meetings, booking rooms, and setting up meetings.
  • All requests for data entry are responded to and completed within allocated timelines.
  • All data entered is accurate and verifiable against source data.
  • Undertakes appropriate training where required allowing access to appropriate databases.
4.Adhering to Good Clinical Practice principles when conducting the research trial and comply with local health and safety policies, procedures, hazard reporting and safe work practices.
  • Conducts clinical research in accordance with TGA ICH GCP, the NHMRC National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research and relevant state/federal privacy laws

5.Contributing to a pro-active and positive service culture
  • Takes an active role in study operation discussions and will bring forward ideas and opinions.
  • Where appropriate assists in the set up and orientation of new staff.
  • Attends relevant educational/professional forums.
  • Participates in regular meeting within the PMCC AUS-NET team, as well as the central AUS-NET team.
  • Effective and timely communication with key stakeholders.
  • Acts in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Professional development is maintained and promoted.
  • Develop and implement tools and strategies to work with greater efficiency.

6.Liaising with research assistant on research-related data management, communications, such as maintaining project-related materials and communications.
  • Develops and participates in appropriate quality activities.
  • Directly maintains a productive working relationship with staff within PCCTU and indirectly with Investigators, Clinical Research Organizations, and trial sponsors.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate to a wide range of individuals of various degree of seniority with confidence.
  • Maintains confidentiality and displays discretion in dealing with fellow staff and patients.
7.Using computer software packages.
  • Competent computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Redcap (with training).
