Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Financial Controller role will be responsible for managing all financial activities of the organisation, ensuring compliance with regulations, maintaining accurate financial records, and providing strategic financial guidance to senior management. This role involves overseeing financial reporting and analysis, as well as managing financial risks and optimising financial processes to drive efficiency. You will responsible for leading the Finance function which includes financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable and billing services.

 

The role works closely with the Finance Leadership team, other Executive Directors and Operational and Clinical leads as well as representing Peter Mac at Board committees including Audit & Risk and Finance.

 

Essential requirements include a profession certification (CPA, CA or equivalent) and leading both financial accounting and operational (accounts payable/receivable) functions within a medium to large complex organisation. You will have a track record of creating and leading a high quality and customer orientated team and a track record of managing change and delivering improvements in systems and processes.

 

A background in the health sector is desirable but not essential.

  • Proven management experience operating at a senior level;

Key Accountabilities

Deliver a high quality and efficient finance function. 

 

  • Manage the operations of the Finance reporting function including: General Ledger oversight and maintenance; Systems Accounting including end to end financial transaction processes; month end and year end processes.
  • Ensure Transaction services team functions operation as high quality and service orientated. 
  • Oversee and validate the preparation of monthly management accounts, statutory accounts and Treasury, cash flow and reporting.
  • Services are delivered in an accurate and timely manner to an agreed and consistent format.
  • Internal controls are transparent and effective in reducing risk.
  • Oversee Capital Expenditure programs including Fixed Asset management.
  • Ensure effective internal controls are implemented and maintained to ensure compliance in accordance with good governance and accounting principles and standards.
Ensure full statutory compliance in respect of accounting matters 
  • Completion of statutory and tax compliance including the Annual Statutory accounts, and compliance with Standing Directions 2018 under the Financial Management Compliance Act 1994.
Co-ordinate all relevant External and Internal Audit activity 
  • Key audit contract to effectively engage and co-ordinate all Internal and external audit requirements.
  • Full compliance achieved with audit recommendations for Finance function 
Effective staff management and development ensures a high performing team 
  • Performance Development plans are in place for all Finance team staff and there is achievement of 90% objectives across all staff 
  • Developing and leading a high-performance team while maximising employee engagement and enablement.

Proactively drive a continuous approach to processes and systems 

  • Identify and implement automation and efficient processes and systems to reduce person dependent risk, duplication and increase productivity.
  • Champion business improvements through enhanced processes and where appropriate lead development of business cases and required specifications to implementation.
Stakeholder Management
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including executives, Committee members and auditors.
  • Communicate financial performance, risks, and strategic initiatives effectively to stakeholders.
